Desciption
The Allen-Bradley 1746-NI8 is an SLC 500 analog I/O module. This analog I/O module has eight (8) non-isolated differential, voltage, or current selectable input channels. The module occupies a single slot in the SLC 500 chassis and is compatible with fixed or modular style hardware.
Allen-Bradley 1746-NI8 is an analog single-slot I/O module for SLC 500 systems. It is suitable for time-sensitive applications that require fast analog signal conversion and high accuracy. The 1746-NI8 module has an 8-channel input and isolation backplane. At 5 V DC and 24 V DC, its backplane current consumption is 200mA and 100mA, respectively. Its maximum backplane power consumption is 1 watt (5 volts DC) and 2.4 watts (24 volts DC). The 1746-NI8 can be installed in any I/O slot except slot 0 in the SLC 500 I/O chassis. The input signal data is converted to digital data by successive approximation conversion. The 1746-NI8 module uses a programmable filter frequency and a low-pass digital filter for input filtering. It performs continuous automatic calibration with isolation voltages of 750 volts DC and 530 volts AC and a test time of 60 seconds. It has a common mode voltage range of -10 to 10 volts, with a maximum of 15 volts between any two terminals.

The 1746-NI8 module is equipped with 18-bit detachable terminals. When wiring, each terminal must use a Belden 8761 or similar cable and one or two 14 AWG wires. The cable has a maximum loop impedance of 40 ohms at the voltage source and 250 ohms at the current source. For troubleshooting and diagnosis, it has 9 green LED status indicators. Each of the eight channels has an indicator to display the input status, and one indicator for each indicator to display the module status. The 1746-NI8 has a Class 2 hazardous environment standard with an operating temperature of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius.

The 1746-NI8 features an eight (8) channel analog input module and is compatible with SLC 500 fixed or modular hardware type controllers. Allen-Bradley's module has an individually selectable voltage or current input channel. Optional input signals include 10V dc, 1-5V dc, 0-5V dc, 0-10V dc (voltage) and 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, +/-20 mA (current).

Input signals can be represented as engineering units, PID scaling, scale counts (range -32,768 to +32,767), scale counts with user-defined ranges (3 classes only), and 1746-NI4 data.

This eight (8) channel module is compatible with SLC 5/01, SLC 5/02, SLC 5/03, SLC 5/04, and SLC 5/05 processors. SLC 5/01 can only run as Class 1, while SLC 5/02, 5/03, 5/04 can be configured for Class 1 and Class 3 operations. Each module's channel can be connected to a single-ended or differential input.
