Allen-Bradley 1756-TIME is a ControlLogix time synchronization module that uses GPS technology to provide accurate time synchronization across different interfaces. Different protocols and standards for synchronization include the cross-range Instrument Group Code B (IRIG-B) standard, PTP (Precise Time Protocol) on Ethernet and ControlLogix backplanes, Network Time Protocol (NTP) over Ethernet, and for CST (Coordinated System Time) The ControlLogix backplane for UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) conversion.

The 1756-TIME synchronization module supplies power through the ControlLogix backplane. The status indicator provides device status and operation information. It features Ethernet connectors 1 and 2 using Rockwell Automation dual-end changeover technology. It has an antenna SMA connector that connects to the GPS bullet antenna. It also comes with an IRIG-B BNC-type connector to connect to an IRIG-B network, where modules can be configured with either a master clock or a slave clock.

Configure and manipulate 1756-TIME using the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application. After setting the IP address, use the BOOTP/DHCP server to set the initial IP address.

The 1756-TIME is an Allen-Bradley module that can be installed into any slot in the 1756 ControlLogix chassis. The main intended function of the module is to provide synchronization and accurate time throughout the network, including the hardware and devices connected to it.

This module is essential for achieving an accurate timebase in generating reports, triggering events, capturing timestamps, and troubleshooting. It also provides an accurate and coordinated time reference for data analysis and investigation when unusual events are encountered. This module is ideal for use in control networks with multiple connected devices.

It has an integrated Ethernet communication port for device and network interfaces, an IRIG-B connection port, and antenna terminals for connecting to the Global Positioning System (GPS) network.

The module is equipped with status indicators, such as PPS indicators to describe the time source lock status. The SPS indicator switches once per second for 100 milliseconds. The SYNC LED is also used to indicate whether the module is locked to the time source. OK LED indicates whether the module has started correctly or whether there is a hardware fault.
