Part number/Catalog number 1769-ASCII
Description: ASCII communication module
Allen-Bradley 1769-ASCII is a 1769 CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 compatible module. This major provides connectivity to devices that support the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) protocol. A typical device that uses this protocol is a bar code reader, usually installed in factory automation applications.
1769-ASCII has two (2) separately isolated ASCII ports. Each port can operate simultaneously in a different configuration and communicate with a different set of devices. ASCII ports can be configured in alternate or bisynchronous mode and can be used independently as RS233 / RS422 (port 1) and RS485 (port 2).
The 1769-ASCII power distance rating is 4 modules. This means that the module must be installed no more than four (4) modules away from the 1769 CompactLogix power supply. It is powered by a backplane and can be connected to any adjacent module, including the 1769 CompactLogix controller. In a MicroLogix system, this module is installed next to the base unit or on the 1769 Compact module adjacent to it. In both cases, the module does not require an external power supply.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-ASCII module provides two (2) independent channels for ASCII devices. The 1769-ASCII has two (2) DB-9 public serial ports that provide communication interfaces with other ASCII devices. These serial ports are isolated from the backplane and can be operated separately.
The serial input voltage signal of the module is 3-25V DC at active signal ground 0 and 3-25V DC at inactive signal ground 1. It has a bus current of 425mA at 5V DC and a maximum power consumption of 2.13W. The 1769-ASCII has a maximum heat dissipation of 7.3 BTU/ hour. It has an isolation voltage of 30V and has been tested to withstand 710V DC for 60 seconds. The serial port status is TX, FIFO, /RX, FIFO overflow, RX parity error, handshake error, and new data flag. 1769-ASCII enabled RTS/CTS hardware handshakes.
1769-ASCII modules operate at 0-60 degrees Celsius. When storing this product as a spare item, the storage temperature should be -40-85 degrees Celsius. The equipment must be operated in an environment with relative humidity of 5-95%, operating vibration of 10-500g at 5-Hz, operating shock of 30g, and non-operating shock of 50g. The 1769-ASCII measures 87 x 34 x 118 mm and weighs 0.18 kg.
